Lately my life has been a whirlwind. Between being a mom, working full time, and trying to pack up and move across the country, things have been moving so fast. I have literally gotten lost in all that has been going on around. As you can imagine, this has been a stressful time. But it’s also exciting. That’s why it’s important to keep some balance in your life.
I have learned that organization is key to managing your time effectively. I used to never write in a planner. But recently, I find myself planning out my weeks every weekend just to keep track with what I have to do. And I will say this has helped me a lot. Any mother, especially one of a young child, knows that you can easily forget something in less than a minute. I mean I have literally walked out of the house without brushing my hair or in my house shoes because I’m so focused on making sure I have everything I need in my hand. But I know that it also has a lot to do with having a lot on my mind. There are nights I can’t sleep because I’m up thinking about what I need to do. So, writing down what you need to do can help you remember those top to-dos.
And let’s go ahead and add working full time. I agreed to a later end date at my job, but it seems like it’s coming back to bite me in the butt. And if you ask why I made that decision in the midst of moving across country, it was all because of professionalism. I do have plans to move up in my career, so I did what I needed to make sure I have a good standing in this industry. But let me tell you, working with no days off until my last day and trying to help pack up my family to move across the country has been challenging. So besides writing things down, I make sure I reserve certain times with myself to get things done. I have been working a 12-8 shift. So, instead of lounging around in the morning, I have blocked off the time before work to do what I need to for my move. Even if it’s a little bit.
I’m not an expert but I believe in putting myself and my needs first. You can’t live a happy life by letting things control you. You have to find a balance and know when to give more to your passions and less to things around you that you can’t control
To break this all down into a simpler form, balancing life has a lot of do’s and don’ts. One thing is for sure the two things I try to do are:
1. Write in a planner
2. Block of time
3. Put yourself first
And some things I don’t do:
1. Putting things off
2. Waiting until the last minute
3. Don’t neglect your needs
But along with all of this, I mainly find solace in prayer and reading in the bible. Matthew 6:34 says “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Some people don’t realize that when you stop and just pray, things become clear in what you need to do to be balanced.
