First let me tell you the back story of my hair journey.
I hadn’t been natural for long. I actually just started my journey right before I got pregnant. It wasn’t that I was getting relaxers, it was more so me using a lot of heat and color on my hair. I wasn’t really taking care of my hair the way I should be.
I would straighten it a lot, especially during the winter. And let’s not forget me adding color to it. I love putting bright colors in my hair, especially colors that required my hair to be bleached. I was a hot mess. But, back in 2013, that’s when I got a reality check.
I bleached my whole head blonde. It was cute, but I can admit that kit was very damaging. After like the second month, my hair was breaking off so bad. I remember when I was using the flat irons, and my hair was literally frying. So, of course I had to get a hair cut. I tried to cut off all of the damage hair and dye my hair black. The black turned my hair green and I still had a long way to go even with the cut.
Fast forward to 2016-2017 when I was pregnant, the prenatal pills really helped restore my hair texture. My curls were flourishing and my hair was so long. I’ve always had long hair so I wasn’t too happy about having long hair again. So, I did what I call my “big chop.” I didn’t get my hair cut into a mini for, but it was cut shorter than I ever had before. When I got that cut, my curls really came through, and that’s when I knew I needed to start taking care of my hair.
I have been dabbling in a few different natural hair products that I wanted to share with you ladies. I still love hair dye, but I don’t dye my hair as much or use harsh chemicals. Because I live in a tropical state, I also don’t have to straighten my hair as much. So this is really for the ladies who are natural but still like to style your hair with heat here and there.
My Favorite Products
Right now my favorite shampoo brand is Design Essentials. I love the almond and avocado flavor. It helps with my dry hair, but at the same time it keeps it moisturized. My hair always feels cleaned but never dried out.
Sticking with the Design Essential brand, I love the honey curl forming custard. I use this for styling my curls. It keeps your curls loose and bouncy, unlike some products, which make your hair hard and crunchy. I definitely recommend this when styling your curls.
Carol’s Daughter is another brand that I like, particularly the curl refresher. I love to use this when I styled my hair the previous day, but its a little dry and needs a refresher to go back to the way I initially styled it. All you have to do is spray this on your hair, and your curls wake back up.
These are just some of my everyday products that I use. You can see more on my Youtube channel here.
