As we start a new month, no matter what month it is, it is important to plan ahead.
This year I started to challenge myself more by setting goals for each month. I feel like this helps me plan what I need to do. Goals are just another way of planning. What is the best way to plan? I’m not sure, but what I can do is give you a few helpful tips.
Recently, I have been all in on making sure I plan each week out. It helps me because as a full time worker, mom and content creator on the side, I need to know what I need to get done each day. So I take it week by week.
The first thing I would suggest, is that you get you a good planner! Right before 2018 ended, I decided to find a good planner, one that met my specific needs. Someone had posted about an Erin Condren planner, and from the looks of it, it had everything I needed. I did a little more research and found that it was the perfect one for me. (I highly recommend this one for content creators.) Since I chose this planner, I was able to personalize it which made it even better. And if you like digital planners, those are out there too. Remember, it’s what ever fits you best.
Once you have a good planner that fits your needs, you should find a time and a day that best works for you to block out for planning. For me it’s Sunday evenings. I can sit down and think about what I want to write down. This is critical, because if you only write in your planner day by day, you never know what’s coming next. Also making the time to plan is important. It means you’re serious about staying on schedule.
Lastly, decide how you want to plan. What I mean by that is, do you want to plan your weeks weekly, bi-weekly, or plan out your whole month? It’s really your choice and what you feel works for you. Like I said, I plan weekly. That way, when the day comes, I can open my planner to see which videos I have planned to shoot or what appointments are coming up.
Planning and scheduling are important, whether you like it or not. If you’re trying to be a boss, you need to organize everything accordingly. You need to have all your affairs in order so you won’t spread yourself too thin or have too many commitments that you end up not being able to commit to. As a busy working mom, this is the one thing I have found solstice in; knowing I can handle my business because I stay on top of it just by simply using a planner.
